As per your article the revenue system in this country does work very well.
Unfortunatly it is one of the only things that does.

As per Garry’s comment. I got knocked R700 for doing 111 Kph in a 100kph zone.

I could have just bribed the guy by paying him the R100 that he asked for as Garry probably did!

You tell me if I am wrong?!?

Lintu: I couldn’t agree more. I’ve just finished watching the highlights and the opening ceremony was absolutely amazing. Hopefully I can find the full ceremony online somewhere to watch tomorrow whilst I’m at work as I can’t help but feel the BBC chopped out so much.

Hi! I have been eyeing up five fingers for a year or so, but have been waiting to be sent to the US again for work as I was worried about the sizing issue and want to actually try them in the shop. Hearing that you had sizing issues is prompting me to ask what exactly the issue was ie should you simply drop one US from your usual? I normally take UK 10, US 11, EU 45……what size do you recommend I order? many thanks! Pirran

I’m going to have to disagree, Athletics Fan. For a non-avid fan like me (I don’t follow the seasons and fixtures too closely) this ad has actually brought the BBC coverage to my attention.

Let’s hope they do something significant for 2012 !

What a load of rubbish! The commentators on the Beeb are always complaining that Athletics is not taken seriously enough and it doesn’t get the respect it deserves…….well here we go again!!!!! Which makes me think what the hell are they going to cunjure up for London 2012? (Also think about the logo fiasco) Ah yes….. Puss in boots!!!!!

I heard about the Vibram5F on the Phedippidations podcast and managed to pick up a pair on a trip to NY,NY 2 weeks ago. I got back to the UK to find that I too had gotten a size too large - but I kept my pair anyway and spent a week walking around in them to get use to them (the 1/4″ gap at the heal hasn’t made much difference because as Colin say’s you walk/run on the ball of the foot in them so your foot doesn’t slop about much). I finally went for a 4km run in them the other day on the road and whilst I agree with your experiences I have to caution others that I have had stiff calves for 2 days now; 4km was a bit too far for a first outing. To give this context I normally run 16km 2 or 3 times a week but clearly I have come to rely on shoe-tech too much and would urge others to try these shoes but like Colin advises you should take it slow and build up. The feeling id great; happy running!

I have to concur with you in that Affirmative Action is severely flawed. I live in South Africa and even though I was too you to have been involved with anything that the members of The Struggle fought against I was old enough to enter the job market with Affirmative Action firmly in place. Sadly for me I was of the race and gender which Affirmative Action was discriminating against most. In SA if you are white and male you are at the very end of the queue and every other minority group should be chosen before you. The positive side of this is that white males have to outshine everyone else by far in order to survive and as such have become sought after commodities, especially abroad.

In the UK Affirmative Action should not have much impact because the groups being discriminated against are still a majority. In South Africa the opposite is true. The group being discriminated against most is by far a minority. To picture the effect of that, imagine the UK and an Affirmative Action bill where companies are required to discriminate against ethnic minority job candidates.

Still in a prefect world… “If you’re perfect for the job, you should get it, regardless of your race, sex, class or creed.” but the world isn’t perfect and we all just do the best with the cards we are dealt. And even though the odds may be stacked against you it doesn’t mean you can’t come out on top.
