My Mac Mini Has Been Ordered

Took the plunge yesterday and finally ordered my Mac Mini. Got confirmation of the order this morning. All I’ve got to do now is order the additional memory from Crucial and the cool new monitor I want to go with.

Blue AppleOrder Confirmation

[Update:] Received an email last night telling that due to high demand, my expected shipping date has shifted from 11 May to 18 May. Sniff :-(

how ya doing? can you please tell me the honest truth about mac mini, is it as good as a G4? or is it better, i have final cut pro three single processor, 576 of ram with 280GIGS, you bet its slow. i usually work on weddings, music videos, actors reels and so forth, how will my projects come out, the same or better. i’m saving for a mac G5 dual processor, but ever since mac mini came out i’m thinking of buying one, but still save up for a G5.

write back when you can. thanks

    Hey Robert

Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment.

To answer your question, the Mac Mini is essentially just a faster smaller G4. It still uses the G4 CPU, but now just a bit quicker.
It’s got a few limitations especially the memory… you can only put one DIMM in and that’s limited to 1GB.

As you’re doing a lot of CPU intensive work, I’d recommend you save up and get the G5. From what I’ve heard, its way more powerful than the G4 and will certainly allow you to add a lot more memory.

I just went for the Mac Mini as it was a nice cheap way to discover Mac OS X.
